Sold off my old studio light set and picked up these. Quite a story to them, Simone who's husband had passed away was a professional photographer and instead of leaving all his gear around going to waste she wanted to pass them on to someone who would get better use out of them. I enquired about the set after seeing it on eBay, Simone responding to my enquiries also took time out to read my profile on my website(didn't think anyone did this), thought my passion for photography was as deep as her husbands so she offered me the gear at a price I simply couldn't refuse. So thank you Simone if you ever read this, means alot to me when someone else can recognise the passion I have for this as well.
Onto the lights, Balcar is a company started back in 1956 by fashion photographer Mardick Balli. Who started out making gear for himself but then eventually sold to others within the profession. Though the name is not as well known as Profotto, Bowens or Elinchrome... the quality of the build is very evident and from the limited testing I've done so far work amazingly. Very eager to put them to their paces though.
